A 38-year-old Port St. Lucie man was taken into custody early February of 2017 after allegedly brandishing a loaded handgun during a bar fight. The gun was reportedly cocked and displayed in the presence of five people. Reports noted that when police were called, the man tried to hide the gun in the bar’s kitchen area. An arrest affidavit stated that after being knocked to the ground, the man got back up on his feet and “pulled out a gun, cocked it and then began to laugh.” The man might have been angered when a beer was accidentally spilled on a woman.
Several Port St. Lucie police officers were dispatched to the scene after a 911 call summoned them. They reportedly found a group of about five men and one woman yelling that the man had a gun. One woman stated that the arrestee said “Lucky I didn’t kill you. I have a gun.” The man was charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, carrying a concealed weapon, possession of cocaine and possession of opiate pain killers without a prescription. He was released from custody on a $37,500 bail. All of the charges are classified as third degree felonies and punishable by up to five years in prison, a fine not to exceed $5,000 and five years of probation.
