Man Arrested, Charged with Sexual Battery after IRCSO Investigation

Indian River sexual battery arrest

On December 2nd, Indian River County police arrested a 75-year-old man on 2 counts of capital sexual battery. Officials say he was accused of rape, and that they made the arrest after a subsequent investigation. The arrest was made in Kennedy Court.

Detectives say they have conducted multiple interviews and gathered various accounts of the incident. Officials say that the man has assaulted at least 3 children under the age of 12. Allegedly, the man threatened one of the children by saying he would use voodoo to take their life if they told anyone. He was jailed on the 3rd and is being held without bail. His arraignment is scheduled for late January.

Responding to an Arrest for Sexual Battery

If you are arrested for sex-related crimes, especially those having to do with children, you should take it seriously. A conviction on such charges could lead to the destruction of your entire life. You will lose your job, career, family, friends, and everything else you have ever known and loved. You should do all that you can to avoid such a fate. The only way to do so is to hire an Indian River criminal lawyer.

Being arrested can be a frightening experience. The officers who take you into custody may try to convince you that it is better to cooperate with their investigation sooner rather than later. You should not do so. You should exercise your Fifth Amendment right to remain silent until the arrival of your Indian River criminal lawyer. They will advise you on how to answer police questions. They will also ensure that you are treated fairly by the justice system.

The alleged perpetrator in the story above was arrested in early December, but he must wait until late January before he is even arraigned; and he will be stuck in jail the entire time. This is not right. Even after something as serious as an Indian River sexual battery arrest, the person in custody deserves a timely arraignment and the opportunity to post bail.
