Another student at Westwood High School, which is located on the block of 1800 Panther Lane, noticed the gun stuffed inside the young man’s pants. He subsequently reported what he saw to the dean, who told the school resource deputy about the sighting. The incident occurred at some point during the school day, although the time of when it happened is currently unknown.
Also unknown is whether or not the BB gun was loaded.
The arrested teen explained to deputies that he had found the BB gun but failed to specify where he located it, according to the Sheriff’s officials. Afterward, the young man was arrested by the school resource deputy and was immediately taken to the Fort Pierce Juvenile Assessment Center.
Fortunately, there were no injuries reported, no disturbances and no need for evacuation following the incident.
The Sheriff’s officials are urging all parents and guardians on speaking with their children about the very serious dangers of toting a BB gun, and that law enforcement frequently have difficulty in distinguishing between BB guns and real guns. Officials are stressing the urgent importance of these discussions so that action can be taken before it’s too late and kids get in serious trouble.
At the current time, the Sheriff’s office is investigating this incident.
