A Florida corrections officer has been arrested after he was caught holding a man at gunpoint. The man’s car had broken down on the side of the road. Jason Henry, who is the Martin County sheriff’s correction officer, stated he believed the man he held at gunpoint was connected with an altercation that took place earlier in the evening.
The man who was held at gunpoint name is Emmanuel Leconte. Emmanuel and Jason never met prior to the incident. David Paul Syler was the other correction officer on the scene. He had never met Emmanuel either. David did not pull a gun on Emmanuel.
Emmanuel was driving to his mother’s house on Saturday, September 26, 2015. His car had overheated, so he pulled over to the side of the road. A few minutes later, Jason and David pulled up to the car. David stayed behind the car, and Jason walked up and shined the light in the car.
Emmanuel stated that he opened the car door in order to see what was going on. Jason stated that he was getting irritated because Emmanuel was not following orders. Emmanuel says that he tried to close the door, but Jason grabbed it. He ordered Emmanuel to get out of the car.
Jason also pointed a gun at Emmanuel that had a laser in it. Emmanuel stated that he was very afraid. Emmanuel called the police and explained the ordeal to them. The police officers determined that Emmanuel had been telling the truth. The officers stated that Jason was intoxicated because he had several beers.
David told police that Jason had a party at his home earlier that day. An altercation occurred during the party. Jason told police officers that he believed that Emmanuel was a lookout for the earlier subjects.
Jason admitted that he had not received the proper training and did not know what to do when Emmanuel would not follow the commands. Jason was arrested and charged with false imprisonment and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. He is in St. Lucie County Jail.
