On December 6, 2014, police arrested a 16-year-old boy for firing into a house on Avenue K in Fort Pierce, Florida. The teenager, Cornelius Ivory, was charged with wounding a 17-year-old male who was in the house. The victim was taken to the local trauma center along with a five-year-old boy who was also in the house. The injuries to both are not life-threatening, and it is unclear whether the wounds to the five-year-old are the result of gunshot or a fall. Ivory and another male, who is unidentified, are said to have fired several shots into the home. Ivory was taken to the Saint Lucie Regional Juvenile Detention Center and charged with three counts of attempted first-degree murder.
Fort Pierce police reveled that an investigation after the December 6 shooting led to Ivory’s identification and arrest. However, investigation into the crime continues, and anyone with information on the incident is asked to contact the police or the Treasure Coast Crime Stoppers. Those with information on the crime may remain anonymous if desired and may be eligible for reward money.
With certain restrictions, U.S. citizens have the right to bear arms. The State of Florida takes such restrictions very seriously, and they include such charges as “reckless display.” For instance, it is against the law for anyone who has been convicted of a felony involving firearms for any reason to carry a concealed weapon anywhere. A person who does have a permit for a firearm is not allowed to carry a concealed weapon into a restaurant that serves alcohol.
