St. Lucie Resident Arrested for Drug Possession

In a continuing police crackdown on illegal drug use, three people were arrested at a meth lab in Vero Beach on April 16. Sgt. Eric Flowers of the Indian River County Sheriff’s Office said that the spread of methamphetamine in the county is a continuing problem and the “most dangerous one we have right now.”

This is the second dismantled meth lab by county investigators this year. It follows three such takedowns by Indian River County personnel along with municipal and federal authorities of the Multi-Agency Crime Enforcement Unit. The April 16 crackdown began at 7 p.m. when investigators, armed with a search warrant for evidence of drug activity, knocked on the door of a home in Seventh Place, Vero Beach. The owner is a woman with a conviction for manufacturing methamphetamine. When no one answered, the Sheriff’s team forced their way in and found two men in the kitchen with supplies for cooking meth, including cleaning chemicals, acids, and medications. The men and the home owner were charged with making the illegal drug. The owner pleaded no contest and was given six months in the Indian River jail.

Sgt. Flowers encouraged the public to keep an eye out in the neighborhoods for the ongoing battle against illegal drugs. He also said that meth making doesn’t always happen at home, adding that a backpack with a portable device for making the drug was found last November near Indian River County Charter High School.
