Targeted Law Enforcement Initiative Yields Drug Trafficking Convictions

As a result of an ongoing U.S. Department of Justice violence reduction initiative, sixteen residents of Fort Pierce have been found guilty of federal firearms and drug trafficking offenses and have received prison sentences.

Referred to as “Operation Grand Slam,” the law enforcement investigation responsible for the convictions spanned two years and also netted seizures of heroin, cocaine, MDMA as well as 70 firearms. The endeavor was part of the broader Project Safe Neighborhoods program that was revived in 2017 by Attorney General Jeff Sessions. With violent crime prevention and successful offender re-entry as its main goals, Project Safe Neighborhoods is a collaborative endeavor of communities and law enforcement agencies at all levels.

Legislators and prosecutors in Florida take controlled substance offenses very seriously, and those convicted of violating state and federal drug laws are subject to extremely onerous sanctions. Lengthy incarceration, costly fines, job loss, potential deportation and a host of other consequences routinely follow a finding of guilt. For these reasons, the assistance of a seasoned drug defense lawyer is critical.

St. Lucie County drug offense lawyer Jonathan Jay Kirschner has dedicated his career to providing accused individuals in Florida the aggressive legal defense they deserve. From simple possession to high volume trafficking charges, he stands prepared to thoroughly investigate the facts of each case, identify weaknesses in the prosecution’s case and, where applicable, seek exclusion of evidence obtained by way of an unconstitutional search or seizure.

It may be possible to secure a reduction or even a dismissal of charges in some cases, but should that prove impossible, every effort will be made to mitigate the penalties imposed at sentencing. Each client’s eligibility for diversionary programs will also be explored in an effort to minimize the negative ramifications a drug charge is likely to have on the lives of defendants and their families.

In terms of marshaling a vigorous legal defense, time truly is of the essence. If you or someone you love is facing a drug allegation in Florida, do not delay in contacting St. Lucie County defense attorney Jonathan Jay Kirschner, Esq. at (772) 489-8501.
