Local Man Arrested for Marijuana and Gun Possession

On Jan. 28, a Port St. Lucie man was arrested after a warrant was executed to search his home, which led to police finding marijuana and guns.

Walter Richard Sublett was contacted by police before a warrant was served to his home on the 8300 block of Mulligan Circle. There, police seized a .22 caliber rifle, some antique handguns and 76 grams of marijuana.

According to TCPalm, deputies had worked twice with a confidential informant to purchase marijuana from Sublett in various business parking lots. He once allegedly sold 11.5 grams for $100 and 3.5 grams for $50.

Sublett, who is a felon and was previously charged for possession of cocaine, was charged with possession of a weapon, possession or more than 20 grams of marijuana, intent to sell, possession of drug equipment, two counts of sale and two counts of possession of less than 20 grams of marijuana.

Sublett’s bond for a previous DUI case was revoked and he is being held in the St. Lucie County jail without bail.

Jonathan Jay Kirschner, Esq, a Port St. Lucie criminal lawyer, has seen firsthand the effects of drug use and abuse in Florida. However, there is still a strong held belief that the government should not control what people choose to put in their own body, especially in the privacy of their own home. Furthermore, despite legislation moving forward to legalize the sale or possession of marijuana, police continue to crack down on individuals who choose to use this oft-considered medication.

Most recently, West Palm Beach approved a marijuana ordinance to give officers the option to issue $100 fines instead of a misdemeanor charge to persons caught with less than 20 grams of marijuana.

For over 20 years, Jonathan Jay Kirschner, Esq has defended all types of controlled substance cases similar to Sublett’s in Pt. St. Lucie. He has handled cases involving marijuana possession and the illegal sale of marijuana throughout the Treasure Coast.
