Lawyers make paper. Lots of it. Two (2) years ago JJK/LLC became the first (and to our knowledge-the only) law firm within 100 square miles to go "green".

They did this by switching to proprietary software which scans all documents either coming into the firm or being generated out, and maintaining them in 128 bit encrypted .pdf files on a secure server. The system is then backed up on two (2) geographically separate and discreet storage facilities, so any file can be re-created in the event of an unlikely system "crash".

When clients have sufficient technological capabilities, correspondence, pleadings, criminal discovery (both written and digital surveillance audios and videos), are forwarded directly to the client without the necessity of generating thousands of documents, wasting precious resources and creating unnecessary solid waste. If the client is not "computer savvy", the firm still maintains the capacity to produce paper copies of documents that are deemed relevant. (In many criminal cases, paper is needlessly copied 2, 3, or 4 times by law enforcement and the government before making its way to the criminal defense lawyer's office). JJK/LLC's digital system allows the lawyer to 'pick and choose' those documents the client should see, without burdening her with unnecessary duplicates.

Why bother? Because JJK/LLC, just as it maintains a dedication to serving its clients to the best of its ability, also feels responsible, to the extent that it can, to lessening lawyers adverse impacts on the environment.
